TIPs*8*Day10&11: Viral Marketing
TIPs#8#
This is probably my favorite subject out of this entire 20-day course.
Viral Marketing is one of the best ways to get more traffic to almost any site. Because of the many forms of viral marketing, the possibilities of how much traffic you can receive are endless.
So what is Viral Marketing?
I don't want to spend too much time on definitions, but in short, viral marketing is about creating a marketing message that will be spread by other people and not just yourself.
Compare it to a cold virus - if you have a cold you don't need to visit everybody in your town to expose them all to it. You just have to visit a few people. They in turn will pass it on to others, who will pass it on, and so forth.
While your marketing message shouldn't be as undesirable as a cold, it should be made in such a way that it is passed on easily and effortlessly.
I want to go over a few basic viral marketing techniques that you can put to use over the next few days. After the 20-day course is over, you can expect to get a more in-depth and advanced viral marketing course that will help you to apply even more techniques.
Viral Technique #1 - Resale Rights
The very first thing that you can do to start implementing viral marketing into your business is to create a resale rights package.
This is basically a simple product (an e-book or audio recording) that you sell for a low price ($10 to $30) along with master resale rights. That means that others can take your product and sell it at whatever price they want and keep 100% profits.
Of course you should mention your name and your website URL in your product. That way the more people that buy your product and then pass it along, the more exposure your website can get.
Try to have the least amount of restrictions on the resale rights. For example, give others the right to resell at any price, or even to include it as a bonus with their current e-books or memberships. That way you will get maximum exposure.
Viral Technique #2 - Viral E-Books
Another great way to get more exposure is to create a free PDF report or e-book on a specific topic in your market At:

In that e-book you should promote other products and services as well. Then you can use a simple program called Viral PDF to allow others to replace your affiliate links with theirs and then pass it on.
Your name and website URL should be at the top of the PDF file and will remain intact while the affiliate links are replaced. This gives other people a reason to pass on the e-book while gaining you more and more exposure.
Viral Technique #3 - JV Giveaways
This is similar to the resale rights technique, but is implemented slightly different. You will still want to create a product just like the one in technique #1 (in fact, you can use the same one!).
However, instead of selling it with master resell rights, you find other successful marketers in your market that are already selling somewhat similar products and then offer your product as a bonus to their subscribers.
This is a win-win situation - you will gain more exposure and they will gain more value for their subscribers.
In the ideal situation you will even set up a simple squeeze page where their subscribers have to opt-in to your list in order to get the bonuses. However, make sure that you do what the marketer wants most so that they feel they are getting the better end of the deal.
Day 11: Traffic Sources That DON'T Work
Over the past few days I have gone over some techniques that will definitely work to generate more traffic to your websites. Now I want to go over a different subject: The traffic sources that DON'T work!
I have been generating traffic for almost four years now and have tried hundreds of different "techniques". I can tell you some of the techniques that failed over and over again.
You will have a choice to make - trust me that these methods don't work and save yourself a lot of time and money, or go and find out yourself that they don't work.
Traffic Killer Method #1: Traffic Exchanges
The item at the top of my list is traffic exchanges. The basic idea behind these types of traffic is that others will visit your website in return for you visits.
You get credits for viewing other people's websites. You can use those credits to get others to look at your websites.
The Results?
You'll get the traffic all right. Your stats will show thousands of visitors. But will you get signups or sales? Most likely not.
The time that you spend on traffic exchanges is better spent in forums or creating products.
Traffic Killer Method #2: Purchased Traffic
There are many companies out there that will sell you tens of thousands of unique visitors for a very reasonable price. These companies purchase expired domains and then redirect any existing traffic to their customer's websites via pop-ups, pop-unders and pop-overs.
It seems very promising - if I pay $50 for 50,000 visitors and only 0.1% of them turn into subscribers then I have only paid $1 per subscriber.
The Results?
I paid for literally millions of visitors and haven't received ONE single subscriber. What a waste of money...
Traffic Killer Method #3: Black Hat SEO
Search engine optimization is a very hot topic, and it will continue to be so as long as there are people using search engines to search for information on the internet.
Many try to "trick" the search engines through many methods - link farm, content cloaking, hidden doorways, and more.
New techniques appear on a daily basis. You will constantly see new pieces of software that will "submit your ad to 1,000,000 blogs" or "automatically bring you 15,000 incoming links."
These methods tend to get you banned from the search engines sooner or later and will cost you more than the traffic you get.
The Results?
It can get you short term traffic but not long term traffic, as soon as the search engine update their search engine algorithm to penalize those who try to trick them, your sites will get banned and lose any potential future traffic.
More Traffic Generating Scams Than You Can Shake a Stick At...
As you go about your Internet Marketing duties, you are going to find that "new and improved" ideas on how to generate traffic to your site will pop up.
You should ignore 99% of them. If people ever use the words "low cost" or "search engine tricks", you should stay far, far away.
