TIPs*10*Day 14: Finding Matching Product
TIPs#10#
How to Match Products to Your Readers?
Alright, you have your squeeze page. You've driven some traffic. You've built a bit of a list. You've even asked them what they want and received some responses.
Now the question is "How do you find products that your list will want to buy?"
I want to stress something here - this is NOT a fast process! You do not want to quickly deliver low-quality products to your list. Doing so will destroy any trust (or chances of it) with those that are your subscribers.
I want to look at several components of finding products, including where to look for products and how to tell if they are any good.
Let's get started!
Where do you FIND good products?
The first question is WHERE do you find good products?
Here are some suggestions of the places that I personally use:
1. ClickBank (Visit ClickBank)
clickbank.com
ClickBank is a great place to find digital products. They have a built in affiliate program that pays out twice a month, and they give you relative rankings on how well products are performing.
Simply go to Clickbank website and find the category that relates to what you are searching for; you should be able to find something similar to what your list needs.
2. Google (Visit Google)
http://www.google.com/
Google (or any other search engine) is another great place to look for products. You can try looking in two places:
a) Organic (free) searches and b) Paid searches
Just type in what you are looking for and check out what pops up. Sometimes the best place to look is in the sponsored ads (if the publishers are paying for advertising then they must be selling their products).
Once you are at the product website see if you can find an "Affiliate" link that allows you to join their affiliate program. If you can't find one email the customer support or the owner of the website to see if they have an affiliate program.
3. Affiliate Showcase (Visit 100 Best Affiliate Program)
http://www.100best-affiliate-programs.com/
Sites like Affiliate list affiliate programs looking for active affiliates. These can be a great place to search for products.
Like ClickBank, all you need to do is search under the category that is the closest-fit to your list.
The last one is my personal favorite...
4. Gossip!
This is my favorite way to find products.
This method is easy - simply subscribe to as many ezines and newsletters from others in your market and then just wait and see what they promote. I find most of my products through this method (although I do use all of the other methods as well when needed).
You might worry that if others are already advertising the product that you are "too late" and all of the good commissions are gone. That is not true - I marketed a $1000 product long after it had first launched (and the price went up to $1500) and I still made several sales.
If the product is really any good, then it is worth promoting any time, not just when it launches.
However, you can have all the products and services at your fingertips, but you might still be wondering...
How do I know if the product is any good?
Like I said above, you do NOT want to promote junk products to your list. You must work your hardest to keep a good relationship with your subscribers, or you will not be able to build a successful business.
Here are several ways that you can tell if a particular product is of any good or not:
1. Buy it
Unless you are not able to test the product yourself (e.g. you run a "quit smoking" ezine and have already quit smoking yourself) you should purchase the product.
Then it's easy - you check out the product and see if it is any good. If it isn't, simply ask for a refund and move on. If it is good, then promote it!
2. Ask the owner for a review copy or a demo version
You'd be surprised at how willing product owners are to allow you to try out their products (especially if it means more sales for them).
All you need is to find out their email address and contact them directly. The worse response that they can say is no, and you have nothing to lose after all.
3. Test their customer support
Send them an email or log a ticket on their helpdesk. See how long it takes for them to get back to you. Remember that most businesses are closed on weekends. If their response takes longer than two or three business day then they are probably not somebody you want to send your clients to.
Keep in mind that there are times when companies experience technical difficulties. If their response takes longer than a day, check to see if they have a valid reason for the delay.
4. Check out what others think of the product
I don't mean testimonials on the sales letter! Visit forums in your market and post questions about the product. Ask if it is of any good. People are always willing to give their opinions!
